Think American

Editor:

Name calling (“Mohammad (sic) Obama, Princess H.R. Clinton”) et al is for third-graders.

Using racially derisive language (“go to the unemployment/food stamp offices in Payson and see who comes out smiling and who comes out crying. It won’t be the whites smiling.”)

This is exactly what is wrong with our precious country. To the gentleman (?) for writing this drivel and you for printing it, I say shame on you.

Give up the party work attitude and think as an American — Please.

Ya, and keep those tax dollars rolling in so us 47% can get even more goodie's off of other peoples sweat equity.

PS: the 47% that you continue to bellow about includes soldiers who serve in combat zones, school teachers, fast food workers, waiters and waitresses, low level government employees, and students..just to name a few. Your "ilk" are always crying, "Do your research" while hitting the keys to your computer in rage. Practice what you preach.

To Ms. Steele

First of all, it may be a third grade mentality to call someone a name. I remember all the political ads, posters and so forth that we studied in various history classes; at least enough to know that it has been a heritage of our country to do so.

I suggest to you that as ‘unbecoming’ as it is, it is certainly not what is wrong with this country. This country has been the model of the world for hundreds of years, and name calling was part of our political process. Our slide into moral and political paralysis is due to folks being afraid to scratch their ear, or some other part, because it might not be ‘politically correct.’ That is one of the biggest roadblocks to our nation’s ability to think clearly, because no one wants to be called to account by the “Thought Police”, as has happened here.

I am glad that this is yet a free country, and one person’s freedoms aren’t subject to the sensibilities of another. It is coming, no doubt, but not yet. When we use derogatory epitaphs for a president or another public figure, that is our right of free speech. And, thank goodness for folks who run papers such at the Roundup who allow freedom of expression, even when it displeases some.

The fact that our epitaphs don’t come up to your standards is not unfortunate. This country was founded on the rowdy free-for-all that elected some, and defeated others. Consider Mr. Paulk’s despicable statement above. He has made many like it. He can’t really help it, I think. But, you know what? As despicable as it is, he has the right to insinuate, to ridicule and to prove to the world those things about himself that speak louder than anything we could say.

He can call us idiots, suggest we croak and generally display the vileness that seems so easy for him. I would 10 to 1 rather deal with someone as eaten up with liberalism as this fellow and his wife are, than to have someone tell me what I can and cannot say.

You aren’t forced to read what is put here. And, I understand the paper is sensitive to such thoughts as you’ve expressed. But, I honor and uphold such people who run the course of ridicule and imposed shame to see that freedom lives in the pages of this paper.

Ms. Steele< Don't let these four or five old white guys intimidate you.,,and you know they are trying in their not-so-subtle way. Your's was an excellent letter. Ted, another old white guy, who accepts new ideas occasionally.

Hi, Ted

You’re mistaken about the service folks being part of the 47%, as well as most of the others you named. They pay taxes, although ‘some’ teachers do get other handouts from the government.

Most of that is in the form or higher paying jobs, thanks to the union kickbacks your friend in the white house provides. That’s why the Michigan people are cutting those shoestrings.

Ever notice that the only ones who bring up the race card is the liberals. They do it in order to fan illogical negative emotions so they don't have to face reality or reason clearly. If you are white, a man, old, religious, carry a gun, and love traditional marriage you are automatically an ignorant, prejudiced, hate-monger. It doesn't matter what you say or do or who you really are. How sad that this is the case all over the country and beyond. Truly we are living in a Pro-death culture when we try to kill people even with words. When that begins to happen to a country, it rots, morally and economically. How far we have come and what a brave new world we live in. Sure hope you are satisfied, Mr. Paulk.
