Members of the Sy Harrison Masonic Lodge #70 in Payson wish to thank all of the chaperones and volunteers who helped make their 2012 Clothe-A-Child program a success by providing 38 children a shopping trip to Walmart for new winter clothing.
Worshipful Master Lon Thomas extends special kudos to the health care specialists at Tonto Basin, Pine-Strawberry, Payson and Julia Randall Elementary Schools who nominated the children who were served. Crucial community partners include The Tonto Apache Tribe, Payson Unified School District with their 84-passenger school bus and driver, the Payson Police Department, which provided two Payson police escort vehicles and drivers and the Payson (north) Fire Department and crew, who provided the sleigh.
The early morning shopping experience was followed by refreshments for the kids consisting of lemonade and holiday cupcakes while volunteers from the Masonic family were served coffee, tea and donuts. Co-chairmen of the event were lodge brothers Bruce Halvarson and Tom Jones, who sincerely thank all the local businesses and personal donors, who so graciously support this annual community Clothe-A-Child event.
Upon their return to the lodge, the children were surprised by a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus from whom they received a toy or game, a bountifully filled Christmas stocking provided by a southbound traveling Christmas elf and a candy cane. Many of the children also took a few minutes to have their faces painted.
