Three members of the 2012 Lady Longhorn volleyball squad are among the state’s elite athletes, earning honors from coaches and the Arizona Republic.
Coaches named Megan Wessel and Mckenzie Creighton to Division III Section I’s All-State second team. The Arizona Republic selected Emma Randall for a Division III honorable mention.
Former Lady Longhorn Emmee Ashby also received honorable mention in the Republic’s Division II All-State rankings.
Coach Arnold Stonebrink congratulates the young women, but said he regrets that Kaitlyn Wessel was not among his honorees.
“She hit the second highest anyone ever did for me as right side hitter and also tied (with her sister) for second best serve receiving ever. Plus she was a great server,” Stonebrink said.
Over the course of the season, Kaitlyn racked up impressive statistics: 59 kills, 10 blocks and 35 aces. She was the team leader in digs and serve-receiving success.
Megan had 45 aces, 48 kills and a .61 serve-receiving mark.
Creighton, the team’s starting setter, dished out a whopping 473 assists and finished with 10 blocks, 15 digs and 30 aces.
Randall shined as a hitter with 44 kills.
