One hundred and fifty plus Payson Community Kids had a major Santa Claus visit Saturday, Dec. 15 at Payson United Methodist Church. Mr. Claus delivered many hundreds of gifts including bicycles, clothing and toys. Santa’s helpers spent hundreds of hours arranging Angel Trees so that donors could learn of each child’s interests, sizes and secret wishes.
The party was from 1 to 4 p.m. and Payson United Methodist provided the setting, the food, and gifts for 45 of the children. The Payson Fire Department, the Sheriff’s Department, the Mazatzal Optimists, and many other generous donors provided the hundreds of other gifts.
“On behalf of the children who are part of Payson Community Kids, we can’t thank everyone enough for their generous gift of time and presents for the children,” said Suzy Tubbs, president and interim director of Payson Community Kids. “We encourage everyone to make sure that they use the Charitable Tax Credit program. It allows singles to keep up to $400 of what they owe in Arizona tax and couples up to $800 right here in Payson if you itemize your tax deductions. The first half of your donation can go to Payson schools (the band, the fine arts program or other choices). The second part can go to one of the nine approved charities other than the schools. We have so many people in need in our community, and the CTC lets you write a check to one of the approved charities like Payson Community Kids, the Christian Clinic, the Senior Center, Habitat for Humanity, the Time Out Shelter and others and get every dollar back from the state of Arizona. But you have to write that check before December 31.”
