Payson High School Principal Anna Van Zile recognized six of her staff during the Dec. 17 school board meeting.
Van Zile recognized Daria Mason, choir and band director; Richard Alvarez, building trades instructor; Halli Kinnick, math teacher; Bob Harrold, custodian; Jeri Johnson, bookstore director; and Kerry Parker, yearbook advisor for the work above and beyond the call of duty.
Van Zile praised Mason for organizing the marching band’s appearances at the Arizona State Capitol to celebrate Pearl Harbor Day and in the Fiesta Bowl Parade.
Van Zile said she appreciated Alvarez’s willingness to help. When the high school needed to fix a sidewalk, Alvarez saved the district thousands of dollars by having his students pour the sidewalk, turning it into an educational project.
Van Zile praised Kinnick, Johnson and Parker for their ingenuity in boosting school spirit.
And she gave kudos to Harrold for handling the transition from elementary school janitorial work to the tougher high school. She said that floor that had never been polished before, now shone.
