Youth Sports

Lil’ Longhorn Wrestling Camp

This camp offers young wrestlers, in the third- through eighth-grades, the opportunity to learn skills from the Payson High School coaches and players.

Registration continues through Tuesday, Feb. 21, with the camp held from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from Feb. 21 through March 1. The cost is $25 per child.

Youth Spring Socceer League

Registration is now taking place for the Youth Spring Soccer League and will continue through March 13.

Games could be played both weekdays and on Saturdays between March 27 and May 17.

The league is open to children age 4 through high school seniors.

Participants in the third-grade and up will be using full fields at Rumsey Park, while the younger players will use the smaller fields.

Volunteer coaches are needed and if you coach your child’s team, the $30 participation fee is waived.

Youth T-Ball and Coach Pitch League

These youth sports give youngsters the opportunity to learn basic baseball skills in a fun, safe and entertaining way.

The program is open to children ages 4 through 7. Those in the first- and second-grades will play coach pitched games.

Registration is March 27 through May 21 and games will be at Rumsey Park, North and South Soccer Fields from June 2 to June 28.

The cost is $25 per child.

Spring Break Sports Camp

This camp is designed to teach youth the fundamentals and enjoyment of athletics.

The sports to which participants, who must be in the first- through fifth-grades, will be introduced to include softball, basketball, kickball, soccer and flag football.

Registration is taking place now through March 8 for the program, which will be held from 8 a.m. to noon, March 12 through March 15 at Rumsey Park. The cost is $30 per child.

Spring Break Fundamental Basketball Academy

The very popular camp is returning March 19 through March 22 at Payson High School’s Wilson Dome.

The program is for youngsters in the third- through eighth-grades and costs $35 per participant.

The camp will offer youth the opportunity to learn from PHS varsity basketball team members and Coach Bill Farrell. The focus will be on basketball funadmentals.

Participants get a shirt if pre-registered and did not take part in the fall camp by Farrell.

Outdoor Recreation


Enjoy a free, easy, 3-mile hike on the Monument Peak Loop Trail at 9 a..m., Saturday, Feb. 18.

This beautiful route features occasional views of the Rim, easy terrain and a year-round spring. Wear hiking boots and bring water. Meet at the Monument Peak Trailhead, which is 4 miles east on Granite Dells Road, turn at the light at the east end of Safeway..

Lifeguard Training

Registration is taking place now. The course is $75 for those 15 (by the end of the class) and older. It will be held March 9 through March 15.

This course is designed to teach students the skills and knowledge needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies. Upon successful completion of all written exams and water skills, this course certifies (and re-certifies) participants in the American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, First Aid, and C.P.R./A.E.D. for the Professional Rescuer. This is a 31-hour course. Class size is limited.
