GCC nursing program application workshop

Applications for Gila Community College Nursing Program are due Thursday, March 1. To learn the details of the application process for the Fall 2012 cohort and have specific questions answered there will be a workshop at Gila Community College, Payson Campus, from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesday, Feb 7 in Room 209.

Senior Circle events

The Payson Regional Medical Center Senior Circle has scheduled the following events:

• Wednesday, Feb. 8, 11:30 a.m., Lunch and Learn with Dr. Zakaluzny about acid reflux and heartburn. Zakaluzny discusses the causes and cures for GERD (gastro esophageal reflux disease).

• Friday, Feb. 10 is the last day to reserve a spot for the Circle trip to Barleens Arizona Opry. The bus departs at 9:15 a.m., Tuesday, March 13. Contact the Senior Circle, (928) 472-9290 for more information.

• Wednesday, Feb. 15, 11:30 a.m., the Senior Circle member lunch is being catered by the culinary students at Payson High School. They will serve barbecued chicken, twice baked potato and salad, plus red velvet cupcakes for dessert. Proceeds will benefit the culinary students.

• Wednesday, Feb. 22, 11:30 a.m. Lunch and Learn about cardiac arrhythmia and atrial fibrillation with Dr. Sam Gillette.

Literacy volunteer information

There will be an informational meeting for people interested in being volunteer teachers in the Family Literacy Program with Rim Country Literacy. The meeting will be at 10 a.m., Friday, Feb. 10 at the Literacy Center, 1001 S. Beeline Highway, behind the Knotty Pine Café. It will last less than an hour.

Come and find out how you can serve children and adults in the Payson area through literacy. The program is still being organized and input is welcome. Training is provided to all volunteers. For more information, call RCLP at (928) 468-7257.

NRA banquet early bird deadline is Feb. 10

Zane Grey Friends of NRA is hosting the Annual Dinner and Auction. It will be held at the Mazatzal Casino Saturday, Feb. 25. Doors open at 5 p.m.

Raffle ticket packages purchased before Feb. 15 get the buyer a second package for free. Dinner tickets are $45 each or $80 per couple.

Friends of NRA is a grassroots fund-raising program that fosters community involvement, raises money and gives 100 percent of net proceeds to qualified local, state and national programs with emphasis on local and state. More than $50,000 from these efforts has come back to the Payson region.

Christian concert

A Christian concert, featuring Chris Driesbach, will be presented at the Rock of Ages Lutheran Church, 204 W. Airport Road, Payson at 6:30 p.m., Friday, Feb. 10.
