Payson Elks Lodge schedule

Elks members and guests are welcome to enjoy lunch at the Lodge from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday; Friday dinner from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.; and Sunday dinner from noon to 5 p.m.

Basic refreshments are offered for sale at the Karaoke Night from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. every Wednesday in February and during the Elks Jam Session, scheduled at 3 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 25. Every Sunday there is Bingo at 1 p.m. and a Pool Tournament at 4 p.m., with Happy Hour from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Elks members and guests are welcome at these events.

Payson Flycasters

The Payson Flycasters Club will meet Saturday, Feb. 25 at Tiny’s Restaurant, 600 E. Highway 260. Breakfast is at 8 a.m., with the meeting starting at 9 a.m.

The speaker will be Cindra Howard from the Orvis shop in Scottsdale. She will be discussing the insects and bugs that are prevalent in our area, when they hatch and how they are used in fishing. Her program will be enhanced with a slide show on the subject.

Unity of Payson

The guest speaker at this week’s Sunday, Feb. 26 Unity of Payson service is Lynnette Brouwer, licensed Unity teacher in training. She’ll go deeper into the 4th Unity Principle, speaking about “Collect Call. Will You Accept the Charges?”

The Unity of Payson Sunday service is at 10 a.m. at Central AZ Board of Realtors, 600 E. Highway 260, Suite #14, next to Tiny’s Restaurant.

Faith Center West Family Church

Faith Center West Family Church Payson is now meeting at 616 S. Beeline Highway, Suite #4, Payson (in the rear upstairs).

XaLt! Worship

XaLt! Worship is aimed at people who wish to explore their walk with God; seekers, de-churched and anyone with questions.

XaLt! is a safe, grace-centered, family-friendly service; casual with energetic music and media.

XaLt! takes place at 6:30 p.m. Sundays in the Log Building on the campus of Mount Cross Lutheran Church, 601 E. Highway 260.

Library Friends of Payson to meet

“Ponzi” — the name alone invokes scowls on the faces of countless individuals victimized by these money-making schemes.Who was Charles Ponzi? What distinguishes a Ponzi scheme from other fraudulent financial schemes, today?  

The Library Friends of Payson welcome Town Councilman John Wilson, who will answer these questions and more, in a presentation addressing such schemes on Monday, Feb. 27 at Payson Public Library.

A short business meeting will begin at 10 a.m., followed by Wilson’s program at 10:30 a.m.  This program is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will follow. For additional information, please call Bessie Tucker at (928) 474-9260.

Pine Library Friends

The next meeting of the Pine Library Friends will be at 10 a.m., Monday, Feb. 27. In lieu of a guest speaker, members will be touring the local museum.

Meet at the front door of the museum located in the Community Center, right next to the ramada, for a look back at some of the history of the area. After the tour, members will go to the Library Activity Room for the meeting.

As always, the tour and meeting are open to the community. 

Republicans host Cardon

The Rim Country Republican Club will meet Monday, Feb. 27 at Tiny’s Family Restaurant, 600 E. Highway 260. The speaker will be Wil Cardon, candidate for U.S. Senate.

Members and guests will gather at 11 a.m. to order lunch and socialize. Cardon will speak at 11:30 a.m., and the business meeting will follow. Everyone is welcome to attend. Call Nancy Cox at (928) 472-1172 for more information.

Overeaters Anonymous

Overeaters Anonymous meets from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays at the Rim Country Health & Retirement Community, 807 W. Longhorn Road, Payson. (After turning in driveway, turn right at first driveway. OA meets in the Community Room in the center of the facility’s apartment complex.)

Friendship Bible Class

Friendship Bible Class, formerly Friendship Coffee, a non-denominational Bible study for women, meets at 1 p.m. every Tuesday at Wolf Den Espresso. All women in the community are invited.

Payson Community Kids volunteer orientation

Payson Community Kids will present a volunteer orientation at 6 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 29 at the Senior Center, 414 W. Main St., Payson.

Payson Community Kids is a non-profit organization that offers assistance and services to underprivileged children in the Payson area. The program provides assistance with food, clothing, and occasional financial needs. It relies on volunteers to ensure that the children receive the aid and support they need.

Applications are now being accepted for artists wishing to participate in the Payson Art League’s annual ’Neath the Rim Open Studio Tour to be held May 4, 5, 6 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.

High Country Gardeners

It’s all about vegetables at High Country Garden Club’s March 1 meeting. Join club members at 7 p.m. at First Southern Baptist Church where local expert Gary Karlowski will present a timely program on growing vegetables from seed, what to plant now, and what can be grown inside the house while we wait for spring.
