I spotted the first robin of the season this past week feeding with the other birds in our back yard.
I guess that means that spring is not too far away. Even my rose bushes are sprouting new growth and so is the parsley and sage.
The garlic I planted a few years ago has already come up and an odd thing — I have a whole garlic sitting on my window sill and I noticed that the whole clove has sprouted!
Now what? Do I just leave it be and cut off the green shoots, or do I get a pot of soil and plant them? Any advice out there?
I can’t believe that I would wish for a snowstorm, but that is exactly what I am wishing for. Here are some interesting statistics on precipitation since the beginning of 2012.
January had .36 inches of moisture, February had .30 inches with hardly any prospects of anything more for the rest of the month.
The average for January is 3.38 and February’s average is 3.54. As you can see, we are about 6 inches behind. In 2002 and 2006, the pattern for moisture was basically the same. Do we have a cycle emerging?
I hope that the national Forest Service is keeping close tabs on the condition of the ponderosa pines and the lack of moisture within Tonto National Forest and begin thinking of closing the forest early this year.

The Fireflies will be attending the monthly blood pressure checks at the community room at the Lamplighter trailer park on March 3 from 8 to 9 a.m.
Look for ladies with their Fireflies T-shirts on and hopefully you will be interested to join with a great bunch of gals with community service as their main focal point, and to help the firefighters to be the best that they can be.
Oops! I missed a big day for Hellsgate firefighter Ben Doss. He added another candle to his birthday cake on Feb. 20. Here’s hoping you had a wonderful birthday.
