Jan. 6 deadline to register for coming Senior Circle events

The Payson Senior Circle has planned the following activities in the coming weeks:

Jan. 17 — Members will take a trip to the Desert Botanical Gardens. The visit includes a privately guided tour of the garden’s main trail followed by lunch. Enjoy a special exhibition about design and sustainability. The luxury motor coach departs Payson at 9 a.m. Reservations required by Jan. 6.

Feb. 9 — Members will attend a presentation of Brigadoon (“It’s almost like being in love”) at the Broadway Palms Theater. The luxury motor coach departs Payson at 9:45 a.m. Reservations required by Jan. 6.

First Friday dinner, music

The Community Presbyterian Church is serving dinner from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Friday, Jan. 6. The meal will feature turkey casserole, a vegetable, a dinner roll, dessert and drink for only $5.

Starlight, featuring Howard and Colleen Brown, will provide the entertainment.

The bus will be running to take you up and down Main Street after dinner too. All proceeds go to the children’s programs at the Community Presbyterian Child Learning Center.

The CPC is at 800 W. Main St., Payson.

More First Friday fun

Celebrate the New Year with a trip to Bootleg Alley Antiques & Art on First Friday, Jan. 6. 

John Carpino will be playing from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. by the fire pit and inside the store.

The Humane Society of Central Arizona will be selling raffle tickets and accepting donations. Refreshments and ambiance will be served.

Add attending First Friday to your New Year’s resolutions. It’s a resolution that’s  fun to do and easy to keep. Bootleg Alley Antiques & Art is located at 520 W. Historic Main St.

Brush pit schedule

This coming weekend, the Regional Payson Area Project… for a Fire Wise Rim Country (RPAP) will be staffing free brush drop-off points at the following locations, weather permitting:

Saturday, Jan. 7 the Blattner Pit will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Blattner Pit is located at Milepost 259.7 on Highway 260, east of Payson.

Sunday, Jan. 8 the Pine Pit will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Pine Pit is located .7 of a mile east of Highway 87 on Control Road, south of Pine.

All RPAP free drop-off locations are for brush, leaves, pine needles, trimmings and other vegetative materials only. Properly bagged Yellow Starthistle, or other listed noxious weed species will also be accepted and will be burned. No household garbage, construction debris, or other items will be accepted.

Forest Volunteer Workday

The Tonto National Forest Payson Ranger District is sponsoring a Volunteer Workday from 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Jan. 7.

Meet at the entrance to the Houston Mesa Campground to help pick up trash along Houston Mesa Road.

Participants should dress for the weather, wear closed-toe shoes, long pants and long sleeve shirts and bring gloves.

Almost New Thrift Shop $1 Bag Sale January 9

Select from clothes, shoes, belts, etc. — anything else you wear (except for jewelry) — that can fit into one of the shop bags and buy it all for just $1.

January’s sale will take place from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday, Jan. 9 at the Almost New Thrift Shop, 304 E. Aero Drive.

There is lots of inventory to choose from, so come and help support the health scholarship fund and the many other programs of the Mogollon Health Alliance Auxiliary.
