January is now well under way, and magazines are filled with getting healthy with exercise and how to organize your space. Like everyone, I need both. The only exercise that I am accomplishing is walking with my pug/beagle mix doggie every day and as far as organizing my space, I think I need help!!!!! There is now minimal walking room in my office and pantry area. The problem is that I have every-day things plus decorations, gifts, books, etc. all together. There should be some type of system that can be applied to this situation before I fall over something! I know, shelves that are on the walls and not on the floor. I will be working on this solution ASAP!!!
Hellsgate Fire Department
The January fire board meeting has been rescheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 18 instead of Jan. 11. The time is the same, 5:30 p.m. in the meeting room at station #21 in Star Valley.
The Star Valley administrative office will be closed in observance of Martin Luther King Day on Monday, Jan. 16.
Hellsgate Fireflies Auxiliary
The deadline has passed for submitting recipes for the upcoming cookbook, Fireflies Can Cook, but if you hurry and send them in, there is a good possibility that they can be entered into the cookbook. Email them to either firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com. The recipes now total around 200, which is a great start, but more are needed.
The St. Vincent de Paul food drive that the fire department and the auxiliary sponsored this past December went very well, with about 200 pounds of food collected, but more is needed. The need is critical so Hellsgate will continue to collect food. Money can also be donated and used for items that are needed to fill the boxes. Both fire stations will be available for donations. The Star Valley station #21 will be open from Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and station #22 in Tonto Village will be open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. My house at 424 Johnson Blvd. is also available to drop off your donations. Please call me first and I will meet you with the donations. The phone number is (928) 478-9935.
Get well wishes
A few of the Hellsgate Fireflies are experiencing difficulties with falling accidents. The vice president, Joan Phippeny, fell and broke her ankle; Mary Kindler, fell and hurt her back; Karen Fausz, the secretary, is helping her daughter, Debbie, who fell on a patch of ice in Amarillo, Texas; Penny Wells, the cookbook chairperson, is being operated on for a hernia repair; and a longtime member of the auxiliary, Grace Daniels, is recuperating from surgery to repair a rotator cuff. May the sun shine on your speedy recovery to each and every one of the Fireflies auxiliary.
Correction: Laverne Belcher is owed an apology from yours truly. I mistakenly reported that she lost a brother recently. In actuality, the loss was of her son, Doug Belcher. My sincere apologies to you, Laverne, for that mistake.
Birthdays and anniversaries
Joan and Gary Norem of Tonto Village III and Mesa will celebrate 22 years of marriage on Jan. 20. Both Joan and Gary are a vital asset to the Hellsgate Fire Department and the auxiliary. Joan has been active with the auxiliary for many years. Gary has pitched right in and helped with the fund-raisers in any capacity that was needed. Happy anniversary to you both.
On Jan. 24, firefighter Bill Beller will celebrate his big day. Bill has been with the Hellsgate Fire Department for many years. Thank you for your continued service and have a great birthday.
On a personal note: Our granddaughter, Christina and Fausto Lopez will celebrate their anniversary on Jan. 24. Congratulations and much love to you both on your ninth anniversary.
