Gila County Supervisor Shirley Dawson announced Monday she would not run for re-election in November.
Dawson has represented district 3 for two terms.
In an announcement, Dawson encouraged voters to carefully analyze a candidate’s motive for running and question whether they could add anything positive to the county.
“Serving as a team member who is dedicated to working for sound progress should be the goal,” she said.
For herself, working with county staff and other representatives has been great, especially when we worked together, she said.
“It has been great working for improvement in our county,” she said. “I am proud of the works that have been accomplished and take pride that we, as a county, have thus far survived the worst economic crisis in our country’s history.”
Dawson went on to say that if the state can find a way to stop passing cuts onto counties, “we should be able to continue to offer the services our citizens expect the county to provide.”

Question of the week
Do you think new Principal Anna Van Zile has a valid idea in eliminating the Asst. Principal and replacing it with an Athletic Director position that would share her duties as Principal?
