Video Game Tournaments are continuing at the Payson Public Library for middle and high school ages. The tournaments are from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., the last Saturday of each month (Jan. 28) in the meeting room at the library, 328 N. McLane Road.

Jan. 27 Friday

• Learn to farm with horses: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., H-4 Ranch in Tonto Basin

• Genealogy Library: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., 302 E. Bonita, Payson

Learn to farm with horses

Staff at the H-4 Ranch in Tonto Basin will teach participants how to hook up harnesses, fit collars, and use different hitches for draft horses for farming.

The lesson takes place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Jan. 27 and Jan. 28 at the ranch, located off of Highway 188 at milepost 269. A barbecue lunch will be served for $8.

Blazer sale and more

The Pine/Strawberry Thrift Store at 3916 N. Highway 87 in downtown Pine (at the community center) is having sales through Jan. 28 on ladies’ and men’s blazers, suits and jackets at 50 percent off the marked prices. Adult shoes will be 50 cents a pair.

From Feb. 1 to Feb. 4, Valentine’s and home décor will be featured and there will be a bag sale of clothing for $2 a bag.

The store is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday. To arrange to have donations collected, call (928) 476-4633.

Free brush pits

The Regional Payson Area Project….for a Fire Wise Rim Country (RPAP) will be staffing free brush drop-off points at the following locations, weather permitting:

On Saturday, Jan. 28, the Blattner Pit will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Blattner Pit is located at Milepost 259.7 on Highway 260, east of Payson.

On Sunday, Jan. 29, the Pine Pit will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Pine Pit is located .7 of a mile east of Highway 87 on Control Road, south of Pine.

All RPAP free drop-off locations are for brush, leaves, pine needles, trimmings and other vegetative materials only. No household garbage, construction debris or other items will be accepted. Use by commercial haulers is prohibited.

Rim Country Celts Ceilidh

The Rim Country Celts’ 2nd Ceilidh is from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28 at the Payson Senior Center, 514 W. Main St.

This family-friendly event features highland dancers accompanied by a piper, a tribute to Robert Burns, food for sale, Celtic and Gaelic music, and vendors.

Tickets are $5 for adults and $2 for children under 16.

Arts & Crafts Open House

Come help the hospital auxiliary Arts & Crafts women make patient tray favors from 9 a.m. to noon on Monday, Jan. 30 at the MHA Activity Center (next to the Almost New Thrift Shop at 308 E. Aero Drive).

Enjoy refreshments and learn about all the other wonderful things the Mogollon Health Alliance Auxiliary creates to raise money for their health scholarship fund, the babies born at Payson Regional Medical Center, community CPR classes and more!

4H Open House

Learn about 4H opportunities at an open house from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Monday, Jan. 30 at the Payson Public Library.

The 4H program offers a wide variety of projects in which young people can participate, including 4H Camp.

Woodhill Neighborhood Watch

The Woodhill Neighborhood Watch group will meet with Police Chief Don Engler regarding the burglaries occurring in Woodhill subdivision. The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31 in the Payson Public Library meeting room. All homeowners are encouraged to attend.
