The Grand Lodge of Masons in Arizona recognized two local Masons at ceremonies held May 31 in Sedona. William Herzig, Past Master of Payson Masonic Lodge #70, was appointed as Grand Sword Bearer and will promote Masonry in Arizona at various ceremonies and cornerstone layings during the coming year. Tom Jones (pictured above), Past Master of Payson Lodge #70, was recognized as the Arizona Mason of the Year by the Grand Lodge. The local lodge was also awarded Grand Lodge recognition plaques for its monthly Trestle Board newsletter and for sustaining quality programs and membership involvement. Veterans of Foreign Wars

The Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States of America will meet at 6 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month at the American Legion Post #69, located at 709 E. Highway 260.

The “Life Changing - Something New” Parkinson’s Disease Support Group meets at 10 a.m. the first Thursday of every month at 805 E. Highway 260 at Au Natural Cafe & Healthy Perspectives.

Genealogy society

The Northern Gila County Genealogical Society July speaker is author, historian and general alltime great storyteller Jinx Pyle. He will speak at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, July 5 at the genealogical library located at 302 E. Bonita St., Payson.

Lost Loves

Lost Loves, a support group for adults who have lost a loved one through suicide, meets on the first and third Thursdays of each month.

Adults suffering from such a loss are welcome to attend the group sessions which are free of charge.

Lost Loves will address grieving and other specific issues which those left behind often experience.  The group will be facilitated by a professional counselor and a survivor of suicide loss.

A nonprofit organization, Lost Loves is currently scheduled to meet at the Senior Circle, 215 N. Beeline Highway, Payson.

Paul Gosar

Gosar to speak

Paul Gosar, Congressional District 1 representative and candidate for the new Congressional District 4, will speak at the Payson Tea Party meeting at 6 p.m., Thursday, July 5 at Tiny’s Family Restaurant, 600 E. Highway 260, Payson.

Gosar serves on the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, which recently held U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt; and the House Natural Resources Committee dealing with energy and mining, water and power, and Indian affairs.

Christ-Centered Recovery

Christ-Centered Recovery group meets at 6:30 p.m. every Thursday at Calvary Chapel Payson, 1103 N. Beeline Highway.

The group uses a faith-based discipleship program called One Step to Freedom. The purpose is more than to merely free dependent persons from their dependency on drugs, alcohol, or other substances, including overeating or gambling; it is also designed to bring people into a saving relationship with Jesus Christ. This is done by breaking down the strongholds that have kept members chained to an unproductive and destructive lifestyle. Childcare is provided.

Computer group meets

The Payson Area Computer Association will hold its regular monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m., Friday, July 6 in the meeting room of the Payson Public Library. 

The first meeting is always free. After that, dues are $10 per family, per year. All are welcome.

Breakfast for a Buck

Guests eat free and other guys pay just $1 for a great breakfast at Payson’s Ponderosa Bible Church, 1800 N. Beeline this Saturday, July 7. Kevin Ritter will prepare the breakfast. Also on the agenda will be times of fellowship and encouragement, led by Dennis Bence.  Come hungry, leave happy.

American Legion Riders

The Payson American Legion Riders next meeting is at Tiny’s Restaurant, 600 E. Highway 260 Saturday, July 7.

Breakfast is at 9:15 a.m., with a business meeting at 10 a.m. All members and interested guests are invited to attend. The major topics for discussion are the final report on the May Fun Run and plans for the promotion of the 2013 benefit for the Payson Supply Line.

Rim Area Gardeners

Rim Area Gardeners meet at 7 p.m. the second Monday of each month at the

Church of Christ, 401 E. Tyler Parkway. At this month’s meeting, July 9, local artist Dick Crane, will present Wind Chimes or Bird Houses.

He will have 10 birdhouse kits for the first 10 people who sign up and pay $5 to cover the cost. First come-first served. The public is invited. Refreshments will be served.

Beyond Limits Disability Ministry

Beyond Limits, an interdenominational Christian group for adults with developmental disabilities, will hold its meeting this month at the meeting room of Payson Public Library, 328 N. McLane Rd., from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday, July 10. The Seventh Day Adventist Church will host the event, where a free meal will be provided along with music and inspiration by Shirley Feather. Participants are encouraged to bring family and friends.

Beyond Limits, a non-profit 501 (c) 3 charitable organization, has been providing services in the Payson area since 2005. For questions or further information, call Mark or Jennie Smith at 468-8434.

Payson Rodeo Committee

The Payson Rodeo Committee is now meeting to make final preparations for the upcoming August rodeo. It will meet on the following Tuesdays – July 10, 17, 31 and Aug. 7 – prior to the August rodeo. The meeting time is at 6 p.m. at the Best Western Inn of Payson.
