Payson Rodeo Committee meeting

The Payson Rodeo Committee is now meeting to make final preparations for the upcoming August rodeo. It will meet on the following Tuesdays — July 10, 17, 31 and Aug. 7 — prior to the August rodeo. The meeting time is at 6 p.m. at the Best Western Inn of Payson.

Moose Lodge events

The Loyal Order of the Moose meetings are at 6 p.m. the second and fourth Tuesday of each month. The Women of the Moose meet at 6 p.m. the first and third Tuesday of each month at the lodge.

The lodge has a Thursday Fish Fry from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and weekly dinner specials are available.

Bereaved parents support group

The Compassionate Friends offers hope, reassurance and a safe place to talk about our children with others who understand the pain of losing a child. Anyone who has lost a child (or grandchild) at any time, at any age is welcome to attend.

The group meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at 102 W. Roundup, Suite D.

Join the Gila County Sheriff’s Posse

The Gila County Sheriff’s Posse is looking for new members.

The Posse was founded back in 1967 as a volunteer group to serve the Sheriff and the people of Gila County. The Posse is called on for many emergencies such as forest fires, floods and snow.

Meetings are held at 7 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month at the Gila County Sheriff’s Posse building, located just north of Main Street on McLane Road. The public is invited.

Beyond Limits Disability Ministry

Beyond Limits, an interdenominational Christian group for adults with developmental disabilities, will hold its meeting this month at the Payson Public Library, 328 N. McLane Road, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday, July 10.

The Seventh Day Adventist Church will host the event, where a free meal will be provided along with music and inspiration by Shirley Feather. Participants are encouraged to bring family and friends.

Beyond Limits, a non-profit 501 (c) 3 charitable organization, has been providing services in the Payson area since 2005. For questions or further information, call Mark or Jennie Smith at (928) 468-8434.

Senior Circle calendar

Attend the 11:30 a.m. Lunch and Learn Wednesday, July 11 — “My Aching Feet” with Dr. Ivan McLaws. He will discuss plantar fasciitis, heel spurs and talotarsal dislocation, some of the common conditions affecting millions of people of all ages throughout the world.

Wednesday, July 18 is the monthly member luncheon. Pot roast and all the trimmings will be served, followed by an ice cream social. Cost is $4.

Pine/Strawberry Writers Association

The newly forming Pine/ Strawberry Writers Association will have its first meeting from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 11 at the Pine Library annex, 6124 W. Randall Place in Pine.

Four local authors — Lana Swearingen, Nancy Burns, Dennis Lee and Dee Dees — are the organizers of the group, but hope other local writers will become involved. The group is being sponsored by the Pine Public Library.

The first meeting will allow for introductions of everyone present, followed by open discussion to share expectations and ideas for the direction of the group. This is an opportunity for you to have input on what you would like the group to become. Everyone is welcome to attend, regardless of writing experience or preferred genre.

Paws in the Park

Due to the July 4 holiday, July’s meeting has been postponed to this week. The meeting will be at 4:30 p.m., Wednesday, July 11, at the new building of the Humane Society of Central Arizona. A tour of the building is on the agenda. The new building is on South McLane behind where the old building was located. Enter just past the garage on the corner of Main and McLane. Visitors are welcome.

Rimstones Rock Club

Payson Rimstones Rock Club will meet at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 11 at Rumsey Park, Ramada #4, west of the Payson Public Library, 328 McLane Road.

This is the final off-site meeting and we will be back in the library for the rest of the year.

Democrats host wine and cheese reception

The Arizona Democratic Party invites you to a wine and cheese reception honoring the Gila County Democratic Party to be held from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Friday, July 20 at Gila County Democratic Party Headquarters, 1101 S. Beeline Highway.

Elks Lodge steak dinner

The Payson Elks Lodge, 1206 N. Beeline Highway, will hold a steak dinner with all the trimmings Saturday, July 28. Guests are welcome.

The Payson Elks Jam Band performs from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., followed by the meal from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Junction 87 will play live music from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Tickets are $15 in advance or $20 at the door. The cover charge for those not eating will be $10 or 2 for $15.
