Rodeo Committee prepares for big event

The Payson Rodeo Committee is now meeting to make final preparations for the upcoming August rodeo. It will meet July 17, 31 and Aug. 7 — prior to the August rodeo. The meeting time is at 6 p.m. Usually the meetings are at the Best Western Inn of Payson, however, the meeting July 17 is at Tiny’s Restaurant, 600 E. Highway 260.

PAL meets tonight

The guest speaker at the July meeting of the Payson Art League is Beth Lewis. She is a member of the Prescott Art Docents and through the Art Docent program, as well as exposure to her husband George’s fine art photography, she has developed a keen appreciation for art. 

Her Jewish faith, in its orthodox teachings prohibits graven images. This presents a paradox, which led her to develop the program on Jewish Art that she will offer to members and guests of PAL at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 17 at Rim Country Health & Retirement Community, 807 W. Longhorn Road, Payson.

Senior Circle news

The Senior Circle will have its monthly member luncheon at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 18. Pot roast and all the trimmings will be featured, followed by an ice cream social. The cost is $4 per person and reservations are required.Call (928) 472-9290 for more details.

Democratic Club of Northern Gila County

The Democratic Club of Northern Gila County will meet from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Wednesday, July 18 at the Democratic Headquarters at 1101 S. Beeline Highway, Payson.

The guest speakers will be Doug Ballard, candidate for Arizona Legislative District 6; Johnnie Robinson, candidate for U. S. House representing District 4 and also Matt Capalby, representing Dr. Richard Carmona, candidate for the U.S. Senate.

Campaign plans will be discussed and reports made.

Alzheimer’s Caregiver Support Group

The Desert Southwest Chapter cordially invites caregivers, families, service providers and members of the community to attend the Alzheimer’s Association Caregiver Support Group meeting at Payson Senior Center, 514 W. Main St., from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. the first and third Wednesdays of each month.

The key is to walk away with skills to support caregivers of a loved one diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease.

Lost Loves

Lost Loves, a support group for adults who have lost a loved one through suicide, meets on the first and third Thursdays of each month at the Senior Circle, 215 N. Beeline Highway, Payson. Adults suffering from such a loss are welcome to attend the group sessions which are free of charge. The group will be facilitated by a professional counselor and a survivor of suicide loss.
