A 53-year-old Payson woman enduring years of debilitating pain after developing an infection following knee surgery has been awarded almost $7.3 million.
A Gila County Superior Court jury found Payson Healthcare Management must pay Lori Sandretto $3.6 million to cover lost wages and medical bills and $3.7 million for pain and suffering.
Art Lloyd, Sandretto’s lawyer, said doctors failed to take Sandretto’s complaints of pain seriously after she had knee surgery three years ago to repair a torn meniscus. Months after the surgery, doctors finally discovered Sandretto had MRSA, a difficult-to-treat staph infection.
After countless surgeries and eventually a knee replacement, Sandretto was left with lasting pain and an abnormal step.
Payson Healthcare Management, a part of Payson Regional Medical Center, hires many of the doctors that work for the clinic.
See Tuesday’s Roundup for an in-depth look at the case, including the complete interview with Lloyd and a juror.
