Card players wanted

The Saving Graces of Payson — a Canasta card-playing group — is looking for a few ladies who enjoy fun, laughter and friendship.

This Red Hat group meets at 10 a.m. the first Wednesday of every month at the beautiful Chaparral Pines dining room. There is a break for lunch around noon and play and resumes after lunch. Anyone interested in joining will be welcomed. You do not need to know how to play, the members will be happy to teach the game.

Alzheimer’s Caregiver Support Group

Genealogy society

The Northern Gila County Genealogical Society will be holding its August program at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 2 at the society’s library, 302 E. Bonita St., Payson.

The program will feature Peter Morgan, a longtime researcher and writer. One of the topics he will be addressing is the genealogy challenge he faced in applying for Sons of the American Revolution membership.

High Country Garden Club

High Country Garden Club will meet at 7 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 2, at First Baptist Church, Colcord and Bonita Streets.

The program is all about iris. Cindy Machen will discuss the planting, dividing, different varieties, fertilizing, proper care and watering of this attractive garden flower. There will be handouts, as well as a free rhizome for all attendees.

Christ-Centered Recovery

Christ-Centered Recovery group meets at 6:30 p.m. every Thursday at Calvary Chapel Payson, 1103 N. Beeline Highway.

The group uses a faith-based program called One Step to Freedom. The purpose is more than to free dependent persons from their dependency on drugs, alcohol, or other substances, including overeating or gambling; it is also designed to bring people into a saving relationship with Jesus Christ by breaking down the strongholds that have kept members chained to an unproductive and destructive lifestyle. Junior Optimist Club meeting Aug. 11

Members of the Mazatzal Optimist Club of Payson would like to invite the youth of Payson, ages 6 to 18, to join us in a Junior Optimist Octagon International (JOOI) meeting at 10 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 11 at the Payson Police Department conference room.

The JOOI club is an extension of the Optimist International and offers teamwork, communications skills, self-esteem, money management and citizenship in fun ways.
