For many small-business owners, understanding what social media is and then applying it to drive in new customers is a daunting task.
What is a tweet? How do I create a page on Facebook? These are questions Kimber Lanning with Local First Arizona gets frequently.
On June 12 and 26, Lanning, along with colleague Russ Baurichter, will try to help business owners figure out what Twitter and Facebook are and how to leverage them to grow their business.
The Rim Country Regional Chamber of Commerce and Northern Gila County Economic Development Corporation are sponsoring the June Business Buzz events.
Lanning and Baurichter will lead two sessions at the Central Board of Realtors, 600 E. Highway 260.
The first session June 12 will deal with the basics of social media. An advanced class will be held June 26.
Both sessions will start at 7:30 a.m., with instruction beginning at 8 a.m. and ending at 10 a.m.
The charge to attend each class is $30.
The training is part of a statewide program by Local First Arizona that has so far reached more than 190 businesses in seven rural communities.
The focus of this training is to establish ongoing social media relationships that work to attract visitors and new customers to Rim Country, said John Stanton, chamber manager. This includes identifying key initiatives for supporting business retention by attracting tourists and locals to businesses.
Stanton hopes the event will provide an over- arching strategy for Rim Country as an outstanding rural community destination.
There are only 40 seats for each of the sessions, and prior payment is required.
Applications are available at the chamber of commerce. For questions and information, call the chamber at (928) 474-4515.
