Animal Sciences Student Wins Prestigious Dekalb Award

Katrina Kueny of Payson High School (PHS) recently received the 2012 DEKALB Agricultural Accomplishment Award, sponsored by The Monsanto Company.

This year, the award celebrates its 65th anniversary. Since the award’s inception, more than 168,000 high school seniors from across the country have received the honor, which has become a symbol for excellence.

In 2011, more than 2,000 students from high schools in 49 of the 50 states were recognized with the DEKALB Award.

As the winner of the 2012 Award, Kueny’s name will be recorded on a permanent plaque displayed at Payson High School.

Kueny, the daughter of Heidi Kueny, received the award for excellence in academics, leadership and agricultural work experience. Kueny’s significant experiences and accomplishments have included raising a variety of livestock for county and state fairs.

Jadee Runner is Kueny’s agricultural education instructor at Payson High School.
