Editor:

I am writing this letter as a representative of the Rim Country Optimist Club. Over the last several years we have partnered with other organizations, including Rotary, to benefit the youth in our community.

Recently Rotary requested our club to join them at their upcoming fund-raiser, “Tips for Rotarians” from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday, June 23 at Jake’s Corner. Jake’s Corner will turn over their establishment to the Rotarians for one special fund-raising event. Besides scholarships and local assistance projects, they will aid Art Stuckenberg, husband of Rotarian president, Marty Stuckenberg, with his fight against brain cancer.

Diagnosed in January, as Art began receiving cancer treatment, he lost his job, benefits and insurance. Recently his wife had her work hours cut back.

The event will feature meals, raffles, silent auctions, music and fun. With a 1950s theme for the night, Rotarians will serve dinner and provide entertainment for a night you’ll long to repeat. There will be three choices of entrees as a part of a complete meal from salad to dessert for a cost of $15.

A portion of each meal will be donated to the Rotary Club for local scholarships. All tips, silent auction and raffle proceeds will be segregated to an account for Art Stuckenberg to assist with his medical expenses for cancer.

Donations are welcome and can be mailed to Payson Rotary, P.O. Box 571, Payson, AZ 85547. Be sure to include on the memo line of your check: FBO: ART STUCKENBERG.

Rim Country Optimist Club encourages other organizations and individuals to join us in whatever way you wish to support this special event for scholarships and vital health care for one of our local citizens.
