Like Coleen MacLeod, I too have heard and read criticism of Payson Regional Medical Center. I offer my perspective — On the late afternoon of Nov. 1, 2011, at my wife’s insistence, I went to Urgent Care with severe pain in my left shoulder. The Urgent Care staff sent me to PRMC by ambulance [about a mile.]
Upon arrival at the ER, I was seen by Dr. Gilbert. He ran a CT, had results in an hour and announced that I had cancer. He stated that it was a life or death situation, that PRMC was not equipped to handle it and that he was sending me to the Valley as soon as he could find me an ICU bed.
A few hours later I was in the ICU at Banner Desert. Days later, after countless tests, we were told that I wasn’t expected to live two weeks — that was over seven months ago!
Dr. Gilbert saved my life.
We are well served indeed by the Payson Regional Medical Center.
