“It’s a great day to be alive; I know the sun’s still shining when I close my eyes. There’s some hard times in the neighborhood, but why can’t every day be just this good?”
Travis Tritt was spot on when he wrote this song. It’s one of my favorite country songs, and also a song that applies to life at the Humane Society of Central Arizona.
Things are going pretty well. The weather has been beautiful, which makes for being outside while walking dogs, or playing with them in the play yard, much more enjoyable. Our new building is getting closer and closer to being complete.
Last weekend, we adopted four of our adorable adoptables at the Fountain Hills Petco, and we have a low-cost spay/neuter clinic coming up in March. We have two mobile adoption events coming up in March as well. On the 10th we will be at the Fountain Hills Petco again; and on March 31st, we will be in Camp Verde to participate in the 10th annual Petapalooza.
Our February adoption special was a big success. As of this writing, we’ve had 22 adoptions. That’s almost one a day! You know I’m big on becoming part of the solution and that you have several ways you can help. It’s the perfect time to adopt a new companion. If you can’t adopt and already have pets, then it’s the perfect time to get them spayed or neutered.
Maybe you can’t have pets or just don’t want them. Hey, that’s fine. You can always donate some of your time, attention, money, supplies and/or love to HSCAZ. We are always in need of towels, blankets, leashes, collars and toys. What a great feeling to know that you helped make a difference in an animal’s life. I know this feeling first-hand because I have worked here for nearly five years. It’s what keeps me coming back day after day. HSCAZ really appreciates its supporters; you help make the impossible, possible. So come on folks, get down here and adopt, donate or sign up for the low-cost spay/neuter clinic. It’s the perfect time.
Chompie is a 2-year-old Terrier mix. He can be a little shy and standoffish until he gets to know you. Once he feels safe with you, he loves to climb into your lap and give lots of kisses. Chompie loves to play! Whether it’s with other dogs or people, it doesn’t matter. Chompie would do best in a home with older kids or no kids. He is very loving and loyal and is patiently waiting to find his forever home.
Gage is a handsome 11-month-old Pit Bull. He has the most captivating green eyes too. He is very sweet and loves people and other dogs. He always has such a blast romping and playing in the yard with the other dogs. He is neutered, current on vaccines and is potty trained. Gage will make someone a very fun, loving companion.
Jack is an adorable 1-1/2-year-old Cocker/Hound mix. Pretty crazy huh? His ears are pretty adorable though; but you’ve got to see them to believe it. Jack loves to play fetch and is an amazing swimmer. He would do best with older kids or no kids. Jack loves to play and gets along great with other dogs. He is potty trained, crate trained and knows his manners.
Smokey is an adorable 11-month-old cat, and what a big cat he is! He loves to play with cat toys and will gladly play with you for quite some time. He gets along with other cats and dogs pretty well. He loves people almost as much as he loves his naps. He is neutered, current on vaccines and has passed his health tests too.
Mimi is a gorgeous 4-year-old calico/tabby cat. Her markings are gorgeous and look like a calico’s and a Tabby’s. She is very sweet and loves to spend time with people. She gets along well with most cats, and would likely enjoy a home with no dogs, and not too many other cats. She is definitely a girl who knows what she wants and shes not afraid to tell you. That’s right, Mimi is very vocal.
Perdita is one of the cutest dogs Ive seen. She is so friendly and outgoing it makes you wonder how she ended up here and no one came looking for her. Perdita gets along with everyone; other dogs, cats, kids and adults too. She loves just being by your side. She is a loving, loyal gal who will make someone very happy.
