Did you know that the Hellsgate Fire Department has a Web site? There are budgets, board meeting minutes, brief biographies of board members and a history of the Star Valley Fire Department. There is a page for the auxiliary that is still in the making, and I will give a brief history of the Fireflies in Tonto Village.
The research turned out to be very interesting. The auxiliary had a name change from Fireflies to Fire Sirens in 2004. From what I have been able to find out, Diane Ham became president and changed the name to Fire Sirens. The name was changed back to Fireflies in 2006 when Linda Stailey became president. The auxiliary is celebrating its 30th year in 2012.
There will be more information on the Fireflies section of the Hellsgate site. The auxiliary now has at least 25 members, some of them are available only in the summer and some of them are honorary. All ladies are welcome to participate, even if it is only for a few months in the summertime. For more information, check out the Web site in a few months. The Web address is hellsgatefire.org.
There was a monthly blood pressure check at the Lamplighter Park this past Saturday morning. The checks are held on the first Saturday of every month. Linda Stailey and Janet Snyder, representing the Fireflies, handed out invitations to anyone who would be interested in joining the organization.
Hellsgate Firefighter Jeff Plante and student nurses, Kim Blazer, Lorraine Boone and Irene Welsh from Gila County Community College were also on hand to do the blood pressure checks.
The first meeting of the Fireflies auxiliary will be on Monday, April 9 at the fire station in Tonto Village. The meeting will start at 10 a.m Come and join. The discussion will be on getting ready for the Memorial Weekend breakfast and maybe getting in on the food festival that Bashas’ is sponsoring on April 21.
This season is most likely going to be a very dry summer with the potential very high for forest fires. There is a Web site that will tell you the forest conditions and many other wild land issues. Go to ‘Google’ and type in SWCG.
The Hellsgate firefighters are in training to know how to handle wild land fires. Today, the classes should have started and will be held on two consecutive weekends. This class is mostly for beginners to wild land fires. Call the administrative office in Star Valley to see if you can still be a participant.
The next fire board meeting of the Hellsgate Fire Department will be on Wednesday, March 14 at the fire station in Star Valley. The meeting will start at 5:30 sharp.
Billy McCave, a firefighter with the Hellsgate Fire Department will celebrate his birthday on March 15. Jenny Scott, a former resident of the Village and the branch manager of National Bank adds another candle to her cake on March 16, followed be another National Bank favorite Neloa Beeler on March 17. Two birthdays were missed last week. Hellsgate firefighter Dale Hayes had his birthday on March 4 and Marsha Ward, a very special friend of mine will celebrate her big day on March 12.
Happy birthday to each and everyone of you.
