The Payson Rimstones Rock Club provides $3,000, college scholarships annually to students from northern Gila County for high school and college students who are majoring in physical and earth sciences, engineering, biological sciences, forestry and physical geography. Students can re-apply yearly if they maintain a B average. The deadline for the scholarship application is April 15. Copies of the scholarship applications are available at the Payson High School guidance Web site.
The scholarships are funded by the Rimstones’ Education Funds, raised during the club’s yearly, Nov. 19-20 Gem and Mineral Show. The show has educational displays and 17 vendors with jewelry, minerals, fossils, gems, books and lapidary supplies for purchase.
For information, contact Barry Jones at (928) 476-3513 or e-mail the club at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The club meets on the third Wednesday of every month at the Payson Public Library (except during the summer when it meets at alternate sites) from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.
