Sometimes life at the hot corner turns downright miserable, especially when a third baseman must simultaneously avoid a sliding base runner and juggle a teammate’s errant throw.
Such was the case March 28 for Longhorn third baseman Chance Randall who tried in vain to tag a Page base runner advancing into scoring position.
Payson lost, 12-5, in a game marred by an officiating error that prompted PHS coach Scott Novack to protest the game.
However, Novack decided to drop the protest, which could have forced a replay of most of the game. See the April 3 sports section for in-depth coverage of the Division III showdown.
