A dozen suspected illegal immigrants were turned over to federal immigration agents Thursday after a routine traffic stop just south of town.
Department of Public Safety officers stopped a vehicle near the entrance of Mazatzal Hotel and Casino, off the Beeline Highway, just after 3 p.m.
Inside the vehicle, officers discovered 12 illegal immigrants.
The immigrants were brought to the Gila County Jail where volunteer posse members monitored them until Immigration and Custom Enforcement agents arrived.
In late February, police detained 15 illegal immigrants near Chase Bank after a sheriff’s deputy made a routine traffic stop and turned them over to ICE agents.
