Pwga Season Off To A Great Start

The PWGA had a fun-filled April to open their 2012 season. The group welcomed three new members to the league this year — Judy Mackenzie from Star Valley, Anna Ransom from Payson, and Jeri Shepard from Star Valley.

The first competition was held April 3 and was a two best ball format. The team of Shari Cody, Sharon Vaplon and Isabella Sockrider came in first, followed by the team of Claudia Bullard, Jan Burns and Jeannie Griffin. Earlene Brewer and Vaplon won closest-to-the-pin honors. There were two birdies that day as well, one by Karen Peterson and the other by Cody. Judy Mackenzie scored a chip-in.

The lagging competition on April 10 was won by Claudia Thompson, followed by Lois Judd in second. Mary Jones, Claudia Bullard and Karen Peterson tied for third. Kay Davis took fourth place. There were also four birdies that day: Peterson, Judd, Bullard and Thompson. Closest-to-the-pin winners were Mary Cain and Bullard.

April 17 was the tee to green competition. In the A Flight, Shari Cody was first and Lois Judd was second. In the B Flight, Mary Cain was first, followed by Susan Torrens in second. Winning the C Flight was Alesha Calderwood, with Earlene Brewer taking second. Claudia Bullard had one birdie and Karen Peterson had three birdies. Peterson also had a chip-in. Closest-to-the-pins were won by Kelly O’Neill and Judd.

A scramble was held on April 24 with the team of Judy Mackenzie, Jan Burns and Jeannie Griffin winning the competition. There were three birdies that day: Lois Judd had one and Kelly O’Neill had two. Closest-to-the-pins went to Griffin and O’Neill.

Even though the season has started, it’s never too late to join the PWGA. If you want to be part of the fun on Tuesday mornings, call Kelly O’Neill at (928) 478-0003.
