Basketball

5th & 6th Grade

Registration: Through Nov. 12

No tryouts, separate boys and girls divisions

Practice: Tuesday and Thursday evenings

Play: starts Saturday, Dec. 8

Cost: $30 per child, includes game shirt

Volunteer coaches needed (fee waived if your child plays)

3rd & 4th Grade

Registration: Dec. 27 through Jan. 11

Play: Feb. 2 through March 11

Place: JRE Gym

Cost: $30

Volleyball

A new Youth Volleyball League is being organized for students in the 7th and 8th grades. It’s about fun and fundamentals.

Registration: Through Nov. 12

Play: Saturdays

Place: Rim Country Middle School gym

Cost: $25

Turkey Trot 5K

The annual Turkey Trot 5K at Green Valley Park is at 9 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 17.

Registration is taking place now and will also be held race day, starting at 8 a.m.

Pre-registration: Closes Nov. 14, guarantees commemorative sweatshirt

Cost: $40 for 10 and up with guarantee of sweatshirt; $25 for students through 12th grade with ID, no sweatshirt

Prizes: turkey from Safeway for winners, plus medals to top three places in each age group

PATS Hikes

• 9 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 17 – Peach Loop Trail, rough hike of moderate to difficult range; three miles; meet at Peach Orchard Trailhead

• 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 28 – Moonlight Hike of Shoofly Ruins. Meet at the Shoofly Ruins Trailhead

• 9 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 15 – Houston Loop, starts at Houston Mesa Trailhead, a mile east of N. Hwy. 87 off Houston Mesa Road, two miles, moderate level of difficulty. A great family hike.

Winter Sports at PHS

Practices for winter sports have started and contests are right around the corner.

Tentatively scheduled for November are:

• Boys and girls basketball scrimmages with Winslow, boys at 5 p.m. and girls at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 15;

• Home basketball openers vs. Globe, 5:30 p.m. girls, 7 p.m. boys, Tuesday, Nov. 20

• Wrestling opener at Coronado, 5 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 21

• Basketball at Mogollon, 5:30 p.m. girls, 7 p.m. boys, Tuesday, Nov. 27

• Wrestling at home vs. multiple teams, 5 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 28

• Boys basketball vs. Sequoia, at home, 7 p.m., Friday, Nov. 30

• Wrestling, Grand Canyon University, Friday, Nov. 30.
