After only a few weeks of construction, Big 5 Sporting Goods has opened in Payson, marking the 37th Big 5 franchise in Arizona.
The 12,050-square foot sporting goods store, at 220 E. Highway 260, not only brings new merchandise to the area, but jobs.
A staggering amount of people stood in line for a job outside the Department of Economic Security last month.
One woman said it was the fifth or sixth job she had applied for in the past year and, lamentably, probably not the last.
Big 5 officials say they are excited to become a part of Payson’s growing and energetic market.
“We believe that our 57 years of experience in the sporting goods business will enable us to successfully fulfill the needs of sports enthusiasts in this community,” said Steve Miller, president and chief executive officer. “The emphasis in all Big 5 stores is on providing a wide selection of top quality, nationally recognized brand name sporting goods, while also focusing on providing friendly, knowledgeable service to our customers.”
Big 5 is planning a grand opening sale beginning at 5 a.m. Black Friday, Nov. 23.
Extended holiday hours will be in effect during December. Normal store hours will be 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.
Leslie Fultman is the store’s manager.
