Animal Shelter Occupancy Is High, Need Is Great

As members of the HSCAZ board of directors and staff, we are often asked how we can be actively involved in an organization that confronts the sad reality of animals who have been abandoned, mistreated, lost their human through no fault of their own, and often face the possibility of being euthanized. Each of us have personal reasons for accepting the responsibilities of serving this organization, but we are united in our dedication and commitment to ensuring each animal who comes our way receives special care, is treated with kindness, and experiences unconditional love from caregivers and volunteer playmates. Our hope is for each animal we serve to learn the goodness of humans, feel protected, and ultimately be adopted into a home providing a life-long, happy, healthy and loving environment. On behalf of the beautiful animals who have no voice, we ask that you consider a special year-end holiday gift to help us help them. Through your compassion, kindness and generous hearts we will be able to better serve the animals who come our way “because they matter.”

Please mail your donation to HSCAZ, P.O. Box 242, Payson, AZ 85547.

$10 buys treats. Our dogs and cats receive treats with a soft touch and kind word as a means to help them know that the shelter is a safe and good place.

$25 vaccinates one cat or dog. Vaccinations are extremely important and vital to the health and wellbeing of all the animals in our care. Our animals are provided vaccines upon intake and are kept up to date while in our care.

$50 spays or neuters one cat. HSCAZ is committed to doing their part to fight the overpopulation of unwanted animals. Cats and kittens that have passed all medical evaluations are spayed or neutered prior to being put up for adoption.

$75 spays or neuters one dog. Dogs and puppies under our care go through medical and behavioral evaluation to ensure that they are physically and mentally healthy. After undergoing evaluation, adoptable dogs that have not been previously altered are spayed or neutered prior to being put up for adoption.

$150 is food for five dogs for one month. Food is vital to ensure the health and wellbeing of all the dogs under our temporary care. From puppy to adult, each one gets a specialized diet to meet his or her needs.

$500 is two-month supply of cat litter. HSCAZ goes through 2,500 pounds of cat litter every two months, accommodating an average of 50 cats.

$1,000 vaccinates all animals for one month. Vaccines are a vital component to maintaining the health and wellbeing of all the animals in our care. By vaccinating dogs and cats for deadly diseases such as parvovirus, distemper, panleukopenia and calici, we are ensuring adoptable animals enter their new homes healthy and happy.

$5,000 pays for one month of veterinarian care for our animals. Animal care staff works with our consulting veterinarian to determine the health status of each animal that comes our way and to prepare them for adoption into a loving home. The protocols include an initial health check, rabies and other vaccinations, spay or neuter, necessary laboratory tests and monthly site visits by the consulting vet.
