Thanks For The Tribute

Tonight a local Blue Ridge sports fan asked my brother Frank Girardi if he had seen the article Roundup Sports Editor Max Foster had written about Dad. Frank called me at work and told me where to find the article. With his voice full of raw emotion he told me, “Sib you have to read it this.”

I am the talker in our family and rarely is it hard for me to find words for any situation. Right now I am having a difficult time finding the words to express my gratitude over what you have done. I am old enough to remember that this isn’t the first time you have told true accounts of my fabulous father.

I believe as human beings we tend to glorify the dead a little. It was refreshing and bittersweet to know that you remember Dad the way we all do.

It will be 30 years this Dec. 7. Some days it feels like a million and other days it feels like it has just happened.

The timing of your article is perfect. Dad will be inducted the Baker University Hall of Fame on Oct. 5. We are all flying to Kansas to be apart of this occasion. To date we are aware of about 15 former players coming from all parts of the U.S. to take part in this event. As a mom I am also happy to report that my linebacker son Alex Stebbins is playing for the Baker University Wildcats.

On behalf of myself and my family I thank you again for your kind words and thoughtfulness.

May God continue to bless you and all of yours!

Sylviana Girardi-Stebbins
