The police department is urging motorists to lock their vehicles after a recent rash of break-ins.

In the last few days, thieves broke into at least 10 vehicles, taking anything of value inside, said Payson Police Chief Don Engler.

The thieves hit only vehicles left unlocked. Engler said it appears the thief(s) are checking for unlocked doors and then taking whatever is not nailed down.

This includes GPS devices, CDs and even loose change.

The break-ins have occurred all over town, targeting both homes and businesses, usually in the evening.

Police remind drivers to lock their vehicles and close windows.
