A 62-year-old Winslow man fell into Chevelon Canyon River and drowned despite efforts of bystanders to save him on Sept. 28 near Winslow.
Michael Conlon stopped at about 4:30 near the bridge on Territorial Road with four friends and walked out onto a rock ledge about 20 feet above the water.
He slipped and fell into the water. He surfaced and called out that the water was cold. A bystander jumped in to help him, but he sank beneath the surface.
The Joseph City and Winslow Fire Department Dive Teams responded and recovered his body at about 6:30 p.m.
The death occurred in a recreational area used by many people who stop along Territorial Road and the bridge.
