Proposition 120 Poorly Researched

By all accounts, it would appear Proposition 120, sponsored by Chester Crandell and Brenda Barton, is another inadequately researched piece of legislation coming out of our Capitol.

It is a replay of SB 1332, which passed the state Legislature and was vetoed by Governor Brewer earlier this year.

In her veto letter, Brewer cited theinsurmountable fiscal hurdles and bureaucratic nightmares it would create for our state — but, most importantly, she stated it was undoubtedly unconstitutional.

We Arizona taxpayers should not find ourselves funding the defense of so many poorly conceived laws. This past year, we witnessed the gutting of SB 1070 by the U.S. Supreme Court. The remaining portions of that law will undoubtedly be contested.

Another law, the abortion bill HB 2036, is currently winding its way through the courts and will soon be heard by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit.

It is time to “de-kookify,” to replace the ideologues, in our Legislature. I am voting against Prop. 120 and for Tom Chabin, Angela LeFevre and Doug Ballard to represent LD6.
