The Payson High School drama department will produce the drama “Sweeney Todd” this weekend in the auditorium.
Department chair Kathy Siler said the group has created a turntable-like elevator to enable the actors to disappear after Sweeney Todd puts his victims in the chair.
“Thomas Walling ... a volunteer with PHS drama ... put his entire heart and soul into this production as well as designing the two-story turntable that we built,” said Siler.
“We’ve never done a turntable before. It also features a special trap door where the victim slides down. We get the special barber chair this Saturday. We are renting it from Theatreworks in Peoria.”
Senior Cody Schuler will play the lead. Junior Leah Brahm will play Sweeney Todd’s cohort Mrs. Lovett. This show is rated PG because of the suggested theme of killing victims for money and jewels. The meat pies are mentioned once, but not discussed or described.
Siler has said that theatre staff always attempt to produce shows for the whole family.
