Tonto Village rocked this past weekend with a barbecue by the Hellsgate auxiliary at fire station #22, and the Modified Motorcycle Camp and Jam. Many of the Villagers watched as the bikers competed in their games with their bikes in front of the Double D Café. Not to be left out were the part-time residents who spent the weekend at their cabins and enjoyed the freedom of riding their toys around the Village.
Labor Day happenings
The Labor Day barbecue put on by the Hellsgate Fireflies was quite a success. The dinners were of the highest quality, the T-shirt sales hit a new high and the bake sale sold out by the end of the day. The highlight of the day was the drawing of the raffle items. Louise Bossert was chosen to select the winners. Louise was a former member of the auxiliary a number of years ago before she moved into Payson. When Louise was a member, she also donated a quilt for the raffle drawing. Thank you Louise for your participation.
Anyway, getting back to the winners. The winner of this year’s quilt donated by Linda Stailey was Bob Casselman of Bear Flat. The winner of the chain saw was J.P. Matchner of Mead Ranch. J.P. is also a Hellsgate firefighter and rest assured that the chain saw will get a lot of use. Congratulations to the winners and thank you to all who participated in the raffle.
The donors of baked goods are very much appreciated by the auxiliary. Everything was exceptional in quality and flew off the tables. Thank you to everyone.

The Hellsgate Fire Board will also be meeting at 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 12 at the Tonto Village fire station.
The Fireflies will be hosting a thank you luncheon for all the Fireflies that have helped to make this year a successful one. The luncheon will be held at 11:30 a.m., Friday, Sept. 14 at the Mazatzal Casino. Please wear your Fireflies T-shirt. Bear Flat is catching up on rain for the year. One of the residents who keeps track of the moisture told me that for the month of August, the rainfall amount was 5.07 inches. The average spanning at least 10 years is 3.18 inches. But, overall, for the year, there is still a deficit of 2.39 inches. Let’s hope that the snowfall this winter makes up that deficit.
Karen Fausz of Thompson Draw I starts off the month of September. Her birthday is the first one of the month. Karen has been the Hellsgate Fireflies secretary this past year and has done a great job. Thank you Karen and I know that you had a great birthday with your family in Texas.
