Friends of Rim Country GCC, Inc., a newly formed foundation just incorporated in April 2012, will host its first fund-raiser from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 22 at Gila Community College in the community room.

The event will be a three-course British tea hosted by Leonnie Dobbins and Viki Gault.

Dobbins and Gault created an enterprise called Chari-Tea, a pun on the word charity. The two host teas to raise money for different local charities.

The first Chari-Tea they put on was for the Time Out Shelter earlier this year.

The GCC Chari-Tea will be accompanied by music from classical pianist Angeline Ng.

A native of Singapore and a Payson resident, Ng has a master’s degree in piano performance. She has performed 11 piano concerti with the Southern Arizona Symphony Orchestra.

The mission of Friends of Rim Country GCC, Inc., is to assist students of the Payson campus of GCC by providing scholarships and other services critical to their pursuit of a higher education.

A tax-deductible donation will be used exclusively to benefit local students, many of whom would not be able to pursue their dreams of an education without help.

Studies show an education is necessary to succeed in today’s highly competitive world.

The board members of Friends of Rim Country GCC, Inc. include Chair Jerry Miles, Secretary Teddy Cohen, Treasurer John Wakelin.

Members at Large include Michele Clayton, Sharon Davis King, Mary McMullen, John Stanton and Ex-Officio Pam Butterfield.

Tickets for the Chari-Tea are $25 and can be purchased at GCC or the Rim Country Regional Chamber of Commerce.

Please call 928-468-8039 to purchase a ticket or for more information.
