The Fire on the Rim trail proved tough competition for mountain bikers Saturday.
One rider referred to the 15-mile course, which circled around Pine-Strawberry, as a kidney pounder.
Riders squared off in three heats, competing in either the 15, 30 or 45-mile race.
Roughly an hour into the race, riders tackling the 45-miler had come around Strawberry and were making their way back down into Pine.
There were many grunts and moans as bikers struggled on the trail’s frequent rugged, uphill sections.
Fire on the Rim continues through the weekend with live music and a beer garden in Pine Saturday and a fun ride on the Cabin Loop Trail Sunday.
