Peterson, Goff Win Pwga Medallion

The highlight for the Payson Women’s Golf Association in July and August was the annual Medallion Tournament. The tournament is played over four weeks, with the two best scores from each player being recorded. The event is typically held in July, but continued into August due to one rainout in July. There are two divisions: low net and low gross.

Winning the low gross was Karen Peterson and winning low net was Joyce Goff. Taking second in the low gross was Claudia Thompson, followed by Shari Cody in third. In the low net division, Isabella Sockrider was second and Mary Jones and Bette Waldren tied for third. Peterson and Goff will be invited to represent the PWGA at the State Medallion in Phoenix in December.

There was a three-way tie for fourth between the teams of Sharon Vaplon and Terry Lindsay, Alesha Calderwood and Gary Campbell, and Joyce Goff and John Calderwood. Closest-to-the-pin honors went to Kay Davis, Isabella Sockrider, Rick Korth and Ralph Lindo.

Casual winter golf

Even though the PWGA season is winding down, it’s never too late to get involved with the group. The women continue to play casual golf throughout the winter, until the season resumes in April 2013. For questions on joining the league, call Kelly O’Neill at (928) 363-0121.
