I was a Republican during the early years following in my father’s footsteps. In those days Republicans were more inclusive. I voted for George Romney for governor, because he worked hard, had talent and was able to relate to the average voter. If he made a mistake he admitted it and apologized.
Mitt Romney is half the man his father was. Romney and his running mate have told so many lies that I have lost count. This has surpassed anything I have ever observed before.
I have been a faithful political convention follower for years. When I looked at the sea of faces during the Republican Convention I saw mostly white faces. It did not reflect the face of greater America.
I then watched the Democratic Convention where I saw a representation of what America looks like today. Everyone was included from white faces to black faces plus.
I understood why I was comfortable there. I was open to change before viewing these two conventions, as I do not always vote one party. But after watching these conventions, and observing both candidates on the stump, I can find no evidence that what Romney represents is good for everyone. It sounds great for the top 1 percent, but very few of us belong there.
There is no way that my caring physician father would be able to vote for this new Republican Party.
I want someone who had to work to achieve. I want the next president to reach out to those who have realized the American Dream, as well as those who aspire to be there. I want our president to park his wealth in this country, and not in some off shore accounts to avoid paying the taxes the rest of us have to pay. I want a leader who uses wisdom to make his foreign policy decisions, not a president who shoots off his mouth to garner political points while putting our overseas citizens in danger.
As I consider all these things that I want in a president, I realize we already have that. His name is Barack Obama. He is the only candidate that will continue the policies that are slowly pulling us out of this inherited devastation. Vote for Barack Obama for your own sake and for the sake of the United States of America.
