He sings with a pure tenor voice.

He loves to perform.

He hopes to improve his singing at music camp this summer.

But he needs help.

Rio Chavez is a freshman at Payson High School (PHS). In school, he performs with both the Voci Concert and Show choirs. Outside of school, he sings with the Payson Choral Society and in Payson and Valley churches.

Rio dreams of attending the Mesa Community College Music Theatre summer camp and taking lessons from a professional voice instructor this year.

The MCC music camp celebrated its 20-year anniversary last year and has a history of inspiring young adults to pursue their dreams.

To fund his dreams Rio will entertain Rim Country residents on Sunday, April 7 starting at 2 p.m. in the Payson United Methodist Church, located behind Ace Hardware.

Admission is free, but donations are welcome.

Rio has an impressive lineup of songs to perform including: “Papa Was a Rolling Stone,” “I Want You Back,” “Via Dolorosa,” “Joyful, Joyful, O Happy Day,” “Jesus Loves Me,” “Amazing Grace,” “Long Black Train,” “Bridge Over Troubled Water,” “Travelin’ Man,” “Pretty Woman,” “Leavin’ on a Jet Plane,” “The Climb,” “My Girl” and “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough.”

All money raised at this benefit concert will go toward music programs.

Rio hopes the community will attend, sit back, relax and enjoy contemporary, gospel, jazz and a little country music.
