A wind advisory remains in effect until 8 p.m. tonight in Payson and much of northern Arizona.

High winds and blowing dust on Interstate 40 forced officials to close the highway earlier today near Winslow. There is no estimate on when the highway will reopen.

Travel east of Flagstaff on I-40 remains prohibited in both directions.

At 10 a.m. Monday, the National Weather Service issued numerous wind and high wind advisories throughout the state.

The Weather Service predicts sustained winds of 30-40 MPH and gusts from 40-57 MPH. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for semis and RVs.
