It’s not every Monday morning that the police chief is seen walking through a quiet Payson neighborhood armed with a shotgun.

But after receiving calls of trouble off North Carefree Circle police called out the big guns to deal with a disorderly man.

Officers believed the man, who has not been identified, may have been armed with a firearm based on a caller’s information, said Police Chief Don Engler moments after the incident ended.

The special response team, in full armored green gear, was called in just in case. A dozen officers circled the home in the 1000 block of North Carefree Circle and attempted to calm the unruly man. Officers eventually used a TASER and cuffed the man on the home’s large front porch.

The man refused medical care.

It was the second time in days SRT members had donned their protective gear. On Thursday, the team took part in active shooter training at the former location of Frontier Elementary School.
