Payson Unified School District Superintendent Ron Hitchcock announced Wednesday morning sweeping changes in the district’s administrative lineup that will change the principal at every school.
Starting next school year, Rob Varner will take over as the principal of Rim Country Middle School (RCMS). He is currently principal of Julia Randall Elementary School (JRE).
Current RCMS principal Will Dunman will move to JRE as principal.
Payson Elementary School (PES) principal Donna Haught will become a teacher at JRE.
At the high school, Principal Anna Van Zile will become the school’s student achievement team leader and Yvette Harpe will be the new Education and Career Action Plan (ECAP) coordinator for RCMS and PHS.
The district plans to hire a new principal and assistant principal for the high school and a new principal for PES.
The district just recently hired Brenda Case as the student achievement director and Lisa Evans as the special education director.
Hitchcock said the changes are the next step in a district-wide reorganization plan.
“When school starts next year new standards for student learning will be in place across Arizona,” he wrote in a e-mail to staff. “New assessment systems are required to measure student growth and mastery of those standards. New teacher and principal evaluations systems, as well as part of the school funding formula, will (be) based on measuring district and educator effectiveness in terms of student achievement. Reorganization to meet these expectations is well underway at the local level.”
Hitchcock added the school board would vote May 13 to issue contracts to staff and teachers.
