While the Northern Gila County Economic Development Corporation (NGCEDC) and the Rim Country Regional Chamber of Commerce always worked together to improve the area’s economy, the organizations recently announced a more formal agreement.
The two groups have combined efforts, the NGCEDC moving to the Chamber offices and becoming a chamber committee. The change comes as reduced funding and limited resources forced both groups to rethink their strategies and structures.
Chamber president Harvey Pelovsky and NGCEDC’s acting president Scott Flake recently announced the decision at a joint meeting.
“The current environment makes it essential to join forces and collaborate even more so than in the past,” Pelovsky said.
“The new group will focus on issues such as business advocacy, attraction, retention and expansion to help existing businesses, create jobs and draw outside funds into the local economy,” Scott said.
The NGCEDC plans to continue the Community Job Fair and Business Awards Luncheon with the help of the chamber.
The newly combined committee looks forward to working with elected officials and community leaders to create and implement a plan to bolster the region’s economy, added Pelovsky and Scott.
