Get ready Rim Country children (and parents) — the Missoula Children’s Theatre (MCT) is coming to town.

Students from the first to 12th grades will audition, rehearse and perform a musical in one week.

This year, the MCT will bring “Blackbeard the Pirate” to Rim Country in late August.

“Rehearsals will begin Monday evening and continue Tuesday after school and evening, Wednesday afternoon and evening, and Thursday evening with a dress rehearsal Thursday night and a final rehearsal on Friday after school,” said Kathy Siler, director of the Payson High School Theatre Department.

The performances will be held at 6:30 p.m., Friday, Aug. 23 and Saturday, Aug. 24.

It’s an intense week for the students who participate. However, the younger cast members have an easier rehearsal schedule to make sure they are fresh for their parts.

Siler has partnered with parent Lynnette Brouwer to host the international project in Payson. Last year, the community thoroughly enjoyed the MCT production of “Beauty Lou and the Country Beast.”

“MCT was a really valuable experience last year for our community and our kids,” said Brouwer.

“Blackbeard” will cast 80 Rim Country children.

“(It’s) a chance for dozens of local kids to be part of a truly professional performance,” said Brouwer. “If you attended last year’s show, you know what we mean!”

This year’s directors are Adam Ward and Joe Godburn.

Ward grew up in Missoula and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Montana. He directed the Shakespeare’s play, “As You Like It” in 2009. His favorite acting gigs include Ponyboy in the “Outsiders” and Lucianus in “Hamlet.”

Godburn graduated from Lees McRae College in Banner Elk, N.C. with a degree in theatre arts and studies. His favorite acting gigs were Junior in “Dearly Departed,” A-Rab in “West Side Story” and Slender in the “Merry Wives of Windsor.”
