A sport is a sport, is a sport,” is what Hannah Armenta, Tori Wilbanks and Cydney Figueroa must be alluding to.

The trio — all former Lady Longhorn stars in several sports — were last season named assistant volleyball coaches at Payson High School.

But during the summer months, the three spent their off hours playing softball in the Town of Payson Women’s Softball League.

As members of One Every Year, they helped their team defeat Journigan House 17-5 in the championship finale played Aug. 7 on the Rumsey I ball field.

Tonto Apache Recreation and Bob’s Babes also participated in the tournament.

With the town recreational softball season at an end and prep volleyball having started yesterday, Aug. 12, the three will now turn their attention to volleyball — a sport in which all three excelled during their years in Lady Horn uniforms.

For the 2013 season, Armenta will coach the freshmen, Figueroa the junior varsity, and Wilbanks will be a varsity assistant.

On the One Every Year championship team with the threesome were Holly Armstrong, Jovanna Dubis, Doni Wilbanks, Cori Barnett, Summer Kelley, Kristin Curtis and Kelsey Waugh.
