Ponderosa Piecers Quilting Guild

New members are welcome to join at the next gathering at 9 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 17 at the American Legion Hall, 709 E. Highway 260. This is the guild’s monthly meeting and open sew. Youngsters 10 and older, interested in learning to quilt and accompanied by an adult, are welcome too.

Payson Lioness Club

The Payson Lioness Club meets at 9 a.m. the third Saturday of the month at Tiny’s Restaurant, 600 E. Highway 260.

Sponsored by the Payson Lions Club, the Payson Lioness Club is part of the world’s largest service organization. Members enjoy activities, service projects and events that benefit local charities. All interested persons are welcome to attend. For more information, call Carol at (928) 978-4132.

Sons of the American Revolution

The local chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution will not have a meeting in August.

Unity of Payson

Unity of Payson will host the Rev. Shari Franklin at its 10 a.m. service, Sunday, Aug. 18. Her talk will be “W.G.A.T.A.P. (With God All Things Are Possible).”

Franklin has served ministries in New Mexico, Texas, Arizona and Unity Village since 1987. She is an ordained Unity minister, counselor, artist, author, creator/facilitator of retreats, workshops, classes and ceremonies. 

The congregation’s monthly potluck follows the service.

Payson Center for Spiritual Awareness

The Payson Center for Spiritual Awareness will host Shiranda Deerwoman, M.A., at its 11:15 a.m. service, Sunday, Aug. 18.

Her topic will be “The Gift of Forgiveness.” She is a counselor and healing arts professional. She is facilitator of A Course in Miracles study groups and forthcoming Joy and Healing study groups starting this fall. She is also a volunteer with Hospice Compassus in Payson and the Training for Life Program for Returning Vets at The Merritt Center in Star Valley.

PCSA is a spiritually-based community where people of all faiths are respected and welcome.

AWANA program at Pine First Baptist

AWANA Clubs begin Monday, Aug. 19 at First Baptist Church of Pine, 4039 N. Highway 87, Pine. Sparks for children in kindergarten through second grade is from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m., and the church van picks up students when school is over; T&T is for third- through sixth-grade students; Trek for seventh and eighth grades; and Journey 24/7 for high school students is from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The program is a great way to learn more about yourself and to come to know and enjoy fellowship with Jesus Christ.

No Payson Amnesty meeting Monday

The Payson chapter of Amnesty International will not meet the third Monday in August. Instead, the group is gathering for a special picnic in Rumsey Park Saturday, Aug. 17.

Overeaters Anonymous

Overeaters Anonymous meets from 2 p.m. Mondays at the Rim Country Health and Retirement Community Room, 807 W. Longhorn Road (after turning in the main driveway, turn right at the first driveway. The Community Room is in the center of the apartment complex). There are no fees or dues. The only membership requirement is a desire to not compulsively overeat anymore.

Buddhist Meditation and Study Group

This group has no dues. Its Tuesday Morning Breakfast Bunch meets at Tiny’s Restaurant, 600 E. Highway 260, every week at 9 a.m. to visit and plan future activities.

Friendship Bible Class

Rim Country 4 Wheelers

Members of the Rim Country 4 Wheelers invite anyone interested in 4-wheeling to join them at 8 a.m. each Wednesday in the parking lot at the east end of Bashas’ by Jiffy Lube. Normally anywhere from four to a dozen or more members participate and the destination is usually determined at that time. Runs also occur once a month on a Saturday and the destination is usually predetermined at the prior month’s meeting.

Alzheimer’s Caregiver Support Group

The Payson Alzheimer’s Caregiver Support Group invites caregivers, families, service providers and members of the community to attend the support group meeting at Payson Senior Center, 514 W. Barbara Underwood to speak to Democrats

Barbara Underwood, president of the Payson School Board, will be the guest speaker at the Democratic Club of Northern Gila County meeting at 6 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 21. The meeting will be held at the Payson Library meeting room. Underwood will bring club members and guests up to date on school board matters and answer questions. Everyone is welcome.
