Gila County Sheriff's Office Investigating Two Deaths Over The Weekend In Rim Country

Authorities are investigating two deaths this weekend, one up on the Mogollon Rim when a man fell several hundred feet and another at Roosevelt Lake when a man reportedly fell off a boat.

While details are limited at this time, the Roundup has learned a man was camping with his family when he reportedly fell several hundred feet off the Rim Saturday evening. The fall happened somewhere near the Military Sinkhole trailhead and the Carr Lake area, a few miles from Woods Canyon Lake, said Bill Pitterle with Tonto Rim Search and Rescue.

TRSAR volunteers responded to the area to help the Heber and Forest Lakes Fire Departments pull the man’s body up the side of the Rim. Pitterle estimates the man was some 300 feet below.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office is investigating what happened.

The sheriff’s office is also investigating another man’s death, this time at Roosevelt Lake.

A man was reportedly boating with family when he fell in. The sheriff’s office dive team has been searching for his body, but it is unclear if they have located it.
